We collect what we need to answer you, and nothing else.

What we collect, and only this

When you fill in the form on this site: your name, your business name, your email, your phone number if you give it, your town, your current website address if you give it, and what you write in the message box.

When you become a client: your billing details, held by our payment processor and not by us, and the business information needed to build and run your site.

When anyone visits this site: standard traffic statistics, such as which pages were viewed and roughly where in the world the visitor was. This is counted, not tied to a name.

Why we collect it

To answer your enquiry. To build and run your website. To bill you. That is the whole list.

We do not build a profile on you, we do not sell anything to anyone, and we do not share your details with a marketing company.

Who else sees it

Our hosting provider, which stores the website and the traffic statistics.

Our payment processor, which holds your card details. We never see or store a full card number.

Our email provider, which delivers the messages you send us.

Nobody else, unless a Canadian court orders it.

Where it is stored

Our hosting and email providers operate globally, so data may be processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of the country it passes through. We use providers with published privacy commitments and we do not move your data anywhere for any other reason.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies that follow you to other sites.

If analytics is switched on, it uses a first party cookie to count whether a visit is new or returning. You can block it in your browser and the site will work exactly the same.

How long we keep it

An enquiry that does not become a client is deleted after 24 months.

Client records are kept for seven years after the agreement ends, because Canadian tax law requires it.

Traffic statistics are kept for 14 months.

Your rights

Ask us what we hold about you and we will send it within 30 days, free.

Ask us to correct something wrong and we will fix it.

Ask us to delete what we hold and we will, except for records tax law requires us to keep.

Withdraw your consent at any time. If you are a client, that ends the agreement, because we cannot run a website without the information to run it.

Email from us

We only email you about your own enquiry or your own account. We do not run a newsletter and we do not add you to a list.

Canada's anti-spam law requires consent, a record of it, our identification, and an unsubscribe honoured within ten business days. We would rather simply not email you at all unless you asked us something.

How to reach us about privacy

Email hello@websiterental.ca. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
